Part of the collectible set I’ve selected for Fetherston’s Treasure Box of Woody Classics are two genuine woody wagon postal stamps. There is a section on page 4 of the book to adhere the stamps.
The U.S. stamp with the red ’48 Ford was used for bulk postcard mailings. I helped the United States Postal Service with historic research and wrote copy for the stamps release, on their behalf. I thought they did a good job and it was nice woody tribute!
The other stamp is from Bequia – Grenadines of St.Vincent in the Caribbean and it shows a 3/4 front view of a 1948 Ford station wagon. Interestingly, the illustrator must have not have been given much information to work from. The color is incorrect and the wood paneling is missing, replaced by body color. This stamp was one of a series of AUTO 100 that were released by various small island nations around the world to celebrate 100 years of the automobile. There is another woody in this series from Tuvalu, in the Pacific. It features a 1948 Chrysler Town & Country convertible, and it is fairly accurate as to color and construction.
There are other woody wagon stamps, but you’ll have to dig deep to find them! These two are included in the collectibles section of Fetherston’s Treasure Box of Classic Woodys.
